Mendocino Residence
Luxurious Simplicity
The owners of this Wine Country residence are actively involved with the working vineyards that surround them. In remodeling the original ranch-style house, they wanted to emphasize the connection between their living space and their land.
Zumaooh re-planned much of the interior, creating transparency and a connection to the land outside. We opened the exterior walls throughout the house using a series of larger windows and new doors, designed with a patterning effect that provides warmth and texture while reinforcing the classic contemporary aesthetic. The resulting space allows free-flowing circulation thru the public areas of the house while capturing views of the surrounding landscape, creating ample entertainment space as well as a private sanctuary for the owners.
The uncomplicated, clean-lined architecture creates an open, spacious feel while color, texture, and contrast are used to define specific areas within the house. The interior was completely refinished and refurnished with a rich palette of materials and sculptural lines, emphasizing the contrast between planes and creating visual interest.
